Scammers have one common goal, “to get money from their target.

They can come at you unexpectedly, it can be by phone call, by post, email, by text message or they even show up on your doorstep.

On the other hand, computer hackers use digital viruses for them to gain access on your personal details and scam you. They can even get thru Wi-FI network for same purpose.

Obviously, scammers use fake websites and emails that will trick target to purchase something that will let him / her fill in the personal details.

One example is event tickets posted online, you pay for it but you will not get the ticket.

Since this type of system become rampant online, we decided to share some ways how fraudsters get in your personal computer and steal money, your sensitive information or even your identity and how to safeguard yourself from those online threat.

We made some research and sorted out common ways how hackers take over your computer and steal your precious data.

Digital viruses

Known as computer viruses, these are computer programs designed to infect computers, tablets and even expensive Smartphone’s. These programs break into your system and infect every connected device with your system.

Computer viruses spread through the following:

  • Files that appear harmless but actually damaging, these are “Trojan viruses.” For example, you download a file that may look like clean or a picture of a certain celebrity and after opening it, the hidden virus attached will be activated.

  • In documents known as “macro viruses”. For example, fake bills on attachment.
  • “Worm virus”, this type of virus scans for other computers and attack by sending copy of itself across all networks. Worm virus can eat memory or even network bandwidth and will make computer slow down or even stop responding.

When your system is infected with virus, it can then monitor your overall activities online without being noticed.

Scans your sensitive information like passwords, scammers can even control your system and send spam emails on your list on your behalf, display advertising, and use your system to con other people.

Spyware

When something unusual appears like pop up on your computer that is “Spywarecan.” So when you click an advertising link on a website or on the pop up you will be taken to another website in which this installs programs without your knowing.

Virus takes over your browser, scan your system for private data and slow down your system down. Spyware is difficult to remove.

Wi-fi eavesdropping

This type of hacking is executed on public wireless network. Average internet user will not notice this. And if the network is not secure, third party individual can access internet that you are accessing within the range.

Scammers will set up access to wireless network in public areas. So if you log into to the fake wireless network, they will capture your personal information like password and card details.
